IMMERSION
What is Immersion?
The CAPTIVATE Immersion program in Sydney is an intensive creative experience that brings students together across music, drama, and dance. Over six days, participants and teachers from across the diocese collaborate to produce a live show, gaining hands-on experience in performance, production, and teamwork in an immersive setting. My participation in the program from 2023 to 2025 has significantly enhanced my drama skills, including stage presence, vocal diction, and the ability to perform a variety of characters in a short time frame. It also strengthened transferable skills such as collaboration with others and adapting under pressure. This program challenged me to apply my existing knowledge in new ways, providing practical experience and confidence that continues to inform my work across all areas of performance and multimedia.
YEARS IN IMMERSION
IMMERSION 2023:
The Sighting
My first year participating in the Immersion program, collaborating with students and teachers across music, drama and dance to create a live performance. I attended the program with a primary focus in drama, performing multiple characters, which challenged me to adapt quickly, improve my stage presence, and work effectively with peers in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. This experience introduced me to the pace and demands of intensive theatre performance and production.
IMMERSION 2024:
Right Here, Right Now
I returned for the second year, continuing to collaborate with students and teachers across music, drama and dance. This year’s production focused more on ensemble work allowing me to further develop my acting versatility and stage awareness. I once again attended the program with a primary focus in drama, gaining a deeper understanding on how each aspect contributes to the final showcase.
IMMERSION 2025:
The Emu Wars
I participated in my third and final year of the program, focusing primarily on music while continuing to take part in drama performances. This year’s program allowed me to contribute to both music and drama, giving me the opportunity to refine my musicianship, ensemble awareness, and stage presence. Through my continued involvement in the program, I further developed my confidence in performance and my ability to connect with the audience.
