ENTERTAINMENT
Overview
Over my time in VET Entertainment, I have participated in a wide range of live production and performance projects, including school showcases, assemblies, liturgies, and community events. While some projects were smaller in scale, each contributed to my development in technical skills, stage management, event coordination, and team collaboration. My work has been recognized both within the College, where I was rehired for subsequent events, and externally, leading to employment opportunities with professional production companies. These experiences have built my versatility, adaptability, and confidence in all areas of entertainment production.
Work Experience
Opera House Work Experience
During my week of work experience at the Sydney Opera House (29 hours), I shadowed senior professionals across audio, lighting, staging, logistics, and stage management departments. I gained hands-on insight into large-scale live production, learning about FOH mixing, patching, lighting systems, stage terminology, and cue sheet operations. I also developed an understanding of stage management documentation, communication systems, and event logistics. This experience gave me valuable industry knowledge and strengthened my technical confidence and collaboration skills in professional production environments.
The Digivan
As part of my VET Entertainment studies, I had the opportunity to work with Skilled Engineer in the Digivan, producing a podcast and learning about audio recording in a semi-studio environment. I gained hands-on experience in live and recorded sound, performing and recording instruments, managing audio levels, and conducting interviews with others. This project deepened my understanding of sound production and creative media processes, and ultimately led to being awarded the Skilled Engineer Student of the Year Award in recognition of my performance and professionalism.
School Events
Across 2024 and 2025, I contributed to numerous school and community events through my role in VET Entertainment, accumulating extensive hands-on experience in live production, audio, lighting, staging, and event management. I assisted with showcases, assemblies, liturgies, and large-scale performances, refining my technical and teamwork skills through consistent participation. These projects allowed me to develop advanced knowledge in digital and analog audio systems (M32R, ZED18), lighting operation (ChamSys QuickQ20, Jands Stage CL), and vision control (Roland HD V-60HD). My dedication to each event, regardless of scale, strengthened my confidence in professional environments and prepared me for real-world production work, eventually leading to re-employment by the College and external production opportunities.
Professional Experience
I have gained hands-on work by professionals in a multitude of different venues, contributing to live production and technical roles outside of the College. I have been hired by external companies to assist with events, where I applied skills in audio setup, lighting operation, stage management, and event coordination in real-world production environments. These opportunities allowed me to refine my technical expertise, problem-solving, and teamwork under professional standards, while adapting to the fast-paced demands of live performance. Working in professional venues also enhanced my confidence, communication skills, and understanding of the broader entertainment industry, bridging my classroom learning with practical, career-ready experience.
