OttoArm - 2023

About the Project

This project was completed as a group collaboration with other students, to design and build a Lego machine and produce an accompanying video advertisement. Our team chose to create a Lego robotic arm and give the advert a futuristic, high-tech aesthetic. Working collaboratively allowed me to experience the full creative and technical process, from conceptual design and planning to physical construction, while developing teamwork and project management skills to achieve a shared vision.

Through this project, I gained a foundational understanding of coding and patching, learning how different machine components could interact within a system. This introduced me to programming logic and mechanical design, showing how complex processes can be broken into manageable parts and combined to create a functioning device. It also provided insight into problem-solving when things didn’t work as expected, reinforcing patience, adaptability, and iterative design thinking.

The advertisement video marked my first experience editing in Adobe Premiere Pro, where I learned essential skills such as sequencing footage, applying 2D text animations, and creating smooth transitions to enhance storytelling and the overall promotional impact. These techniques not only contributed to a polished, professional-looking final product but also served as a foundation for future projects, informing my approach to animation, video editing, and integrating multimedia elements in later work.
